A recent study by IIFL Securities analysed expenditure trends in the last four pre-election-year (PEY) budgets. They concluded that governments do not always step-up revenue expenditure relative to capital expenditure. In 3 out of 4 PEY budgets, growth expenditure was accelerated much more than populist schemes. This point has been again reiterated in the budget.

ITC reported a 21% year-on-year (YoY) rise in net profit for the quarter ended December to Rs 5,031 crore, which was higher than the ET Now poll of Rs 4,605 crore. Revenue from operations, net of excise duty, rose a meagre 2.3% on year to Rs 16,226 crore, and trailed estimates of Rs 16,810 crore.

Global brokerage firm BNP Paribas' Kunal Vora sees the Budget as positive for infrastructure because of the large budgetary allocation, private banks for relative attractiveness of FDs and MFs and consumer durables on account of higher disposable income.

The ratings agency said its ongoing monitoring would be looking closely at any major changes to the rated entities’ access to financing or cost of financing on a long-term basis, unfavourable regulatory or legal developments or ESG-related matters that could affect credit profiles.

Continuing its growth trajectory, the watches and wearables business recorded a total income of Rs 811 crore, up by 15% compared with last year's quarter. The business reported an EBIT of Rs 89 crore, with an EBIT margin of 11%.

The stock has given multibagger returns to investors in the last five years, offering over 550% from March 2021 to April 2022. In the last five years, the stock has more than double. However, the stock has underperformed in the last one year, offering -33.62% returns.

Domestic brokerage Motilal Oswal has a Buy call on Dabur with a target of Rs 650. "Overall sales growth trajectory has revived in recent years – a continuation of the turnaround seen by Dabur under the new CEO. Beyond the near-term, rural demand recovery, material cost stability and a less challenging base are likely to result in healthy earnings growth from FY24 onwards," Motilal said.
