"The market is now awaiting the outcome of the Fed meeting to see how they will respond to the ongoing crisis, particularly in terms of rate hikes. Investors expect the central bank to raise interest rates by 0–25 basis points," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services.

Reliance Industries Limited's (RIL) share has witnessed a significant decline over the past two weeks. Since March 8, RIL stock has lost almost 10 per cent. On Monday, as the overall market underperformed amid the ongoing saga over the UBS-Credit Suisse acquisition, RIL shares were trading significantly lower at Rs 2193 apiece near the April 2020 lows.

Given the several unknowns prevailing for the sector at present, the management of IT companies will face tough questions from Dalal Street when they release earnings for the March quarter next month.

Meanwhile, amid concern over US markets, pharma stocks were also under pressure. Shares of Gland Pharma, Lupin and Granules India declined 2-2.5% in Monday's trade. Aurobindo Pharma, Pfizer, Zydus Lifesciences, GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals, and Sanofi India were also trading with cuts.

Meanwhile, the brokerage firm in its large-cap model portfolio increased weight on Axis Bank (70bps to 7.5%), SBI (30 bps to 6.5%), Power Grid (40 bps to 2.5%), and RIL (100 bps to 9.8%), while it removed Hindalco (140 bps from the portfolio) and reduced weight on L&T by 100 bps to 400 bps.
