The rally in stocks on Wall Street comes a day before a crucial interest-rate decision from the US Federal Reserve

European fund managers are reportedly especially pessimistic, with a third of respondents saying "a systemic credit event" appears to be the most significant market threat. In Germany, another survey shows a significant decline in investor sentiment. Following the recent collapses of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank, concerns have grown over the prospects of other potential bank crises occurring.

While the contagion risk of SVB’s fallout has been avoided for the time being, there are some lessons we can take away from this episode.

We expect the recovery to strengthen further. However, the upside still seems capped, citing multiple hurdles till 17,400 levels in Nifty. Motilal Oswal initiated a buy on Phoenix Mills with a target of Rs 1700. The brokerage firm expects the company to deliver 34% CAGR in EBITDA of the rental portfolio.

BofA cut its year-end target for the Nifty 50 by 8.3% to 18,000 points, expecting the index to be volatile and trade between 16,000 and 18,000 levels for the year.

Opening Bell: Sensex jumps over 250 pts, Nifty above 17,000; RIL, L&T gain 1% each.

From the Sensex pack, Nestle, L&T, Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv were the top gainers, rising over 1%. Reliance, Bharti Airtel, Axis Bank and Asian Paints also opened with gains. On the other flip side, Tech Mahindra, Power Grid, ITC and IndusInd Bank opened with cuts.

"In Q3, capital goods companies reported strong margin expansion. This is usually a good lead indicator of a strong demand outlook (so that competitive intensity is less), better capacity utilisations or new capabilities that are not yet commoditized," said Prateek Agarwal of Motilal Oswal Asset Management Company.

“We maintain our Buy rating on the ITC stock as a result of (a) better earnings visibility over peers in the next few quarters, (b) inexpensive valuations; and (c) attractive dividend yield,” Sneha Poddar, Associate Vice President at Motilal Oswal Financial Services Limited, said.

The price of this company has been consolidating below Rs 1,140 since June 2022. During this phase, the price has made several attempts to rise out of this range but failed. The recent attempt was met by a strong resistance from the horizontal trendline. Now the price has formed a bearish engulfing pattern, which suggests that the price would slide lower from here.

India VIX was up by 8.38% from 14.77 to 16 levels on Monday. Volatility has been on the rise from the last three weeks which is giving some discomfort to the bulls. “It closed on a negative note though well off the intraday lows indicating buying interest at lower levels. On the hourly charts, we can observe that the momentum indicator has triggered a positive crossover which is a buy signal. Thus, we expect the Nifty to continue with the positive momentum which has started during the second half of Monday’s trading session for the next trading session as well,” Gedia said.

The key technical indicators are in favour of the bulls in the short-term as well as on the medium-term timeframe charts. As per the current setup, we believe the stock may keep exploring uncharted territory.
