The benchmark Sensex experienced a notable surge on Wednesday, with an increase of approximately 350 points to reach 57,960. As part of this rally, six stocks from the BSE 500 index hit a new 52-week high, a significant technical measure for some traders and investors in assessing a stock's present value and forecasting its future price trends. The 52-week high signifies the highest trading price of a stock within the last year.

The idea is to ensure private players are not crowded out of the bond market at a time when private capital expenditure is expected to gradually gain traction and credit growth has picked up pace, said the official.

In addition, the board of Sebi has decided to permit "Self Sponsored AMCs" to continue the mutual fund business. This is subject to asset management companies (AMCs) fulfilling certain conditions. The move would give the original sponsor flexibility to voluntarily disassociate itself from the MF without needing to induct a new and eligible sponsor.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has approved a broad framework of Application Supported by Blocked Amount or ASBA-like facility to be available to investors for secondary market trading.The facility is based on blocking of funds for trading in the secondary market through UPI, SEBI said in a release post its board meeting.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 172.29 points, or 0.53%, at the open to 32,566.54.

The requirement will kick in from Oct.1, 2023 for top 100 companies by market capitalization, and from April 1, 2024 for the top 250, SEBI said in a press release following a board meeting.

Adding to the concerns was CRISIL Ratings, who joined the club of global rating agencies by downgrading the outlook on Vedanta’s non-convertible debentures and long-term bank facilities to “negative” from “stable”.

The Adani Group has refuted a news report that it has not completed repayment of loans backed by shares worth $2.15 billion. The conglomerate said in a statement to exchanges late Tuesday it has completed 'full prepayment' of margin-linked share-backed financing aggregating to $2.15 billion. It also said all shares pledged for such loans have been released.

Vedanta Ltd on Tuesday declared a fifth interim dividend for the fiscal year ending March 31 even as the company's parent, Vedanta Resources, scrambles to secure fresh loans and refinance existing debt. The Indian natural resources company declared interim dividend of 20.50 rupees per share. The move comes days after a report said Chairman Anil Agarwal was weighing selling less than 5% stake in Vedanta. The company called the report "untrue and baseless".

The markets opened in the positive territory on Tuesday but could not hold on to the high point. The Nifty ended the day with a net loss. Wednesday is likely to be dominated by the rollovers on expiry of monthly derivatives series, as Thursday is market holiday.
