With American short-seller Hindenburg Research's negative report on the conglomerate dominating conversations on Dalal Street, the Rs 20,000 crore mega follow-on public offer (FPO) of Adani Enterprises kicked off for public subscription on Friday. The FPO, which opens for subscription from January 27 and ends on January 31, is a fresh issue of 61,474,751 equity shares on a partly paid basis with a price band of Rs 3,112–3,276.

Bank stocks were among the worst affected as Nifty Bank lost over 1,000 points or 2.5%. PSU bank stocks, which were outperforming in the last few months, were among the worst hit.

"Tata Motors should witness a gradual recovery as supply-side issues ease (for JLR) and commodity headwinds stabilize. It will benefit from macro recovery in India, company-specific volume/margin drivers, and sharp improvement in FCF and leverage in both JLR and the India business," Motilal Oswal said.

While those advising clients to bid in the FPO are bullish about the company's long-term prospects, analysts at several other brokerages said they do not track the company and refrained from making a recommendation. Some investment advisers, on condition of anonymity, said the current share valuation was elevated and so they were advising clients to skip the FPO.

Adani group shares fell as much as 8% on Wednesday eroding the conglomerate's market capitalisation by ₹96,000 crore after the release of the report. A statement issued by a group executive said the volatility created by the report in the stock markets had led to 'unwanted anguish for Indian citizens.'

“Indian banking exposure is less than 40% of total group debt,” CLSA said in its report dated January 26. Within this, private banks’ exposure is below 10% of total group debt and most banks have indicated that they have largely financed assets with strong cash flows, such as airports/ports,” it said.

Dr Reddy's Laboratories beat Street estimates by reporting a 77% on-year rise in December quarter net profit to Rs 1,247 crore. Revenue jumped 27% YoY higher to Rs 6,770 crore. During the quarter, the company's gross margin increased to 59.2% up from 53.8% in the year-ago period.

The company reported a multi-quarter high order flow for the December quarter with total contract value (TCV) of $ 440.2 million compared with $367.8 million in the previous quarter. However, it was driven by renewal contracts as the proportion of new contracts in TCV slipped to 54.3% from 62.1% in the previous quarter.

The company forecast first-quarter revenue in the range of about $10.5 billion to $11.5 billion. Analysts on average were expecting total revenue of $13.93 billion, according to Refinitiv data.

The deal, reached last year, was valued at close to $10 million and BuzzFeed will help generate content for Meta's platforms and train creators to grow their presence online, the report had said, citing people familiar with the situation.

Fourth-quarter earnings season has hit full stride, with more than one fourth of the companies in the S&P 500 having reported. Of those, 69% have beaten consensus estimates, up from 67% on Wednesday, according to Refinitiv.

Elsewhere in Japan, core consumer prices in Tokyo, a leading indicator of nationwide trends, rose 4.3% in January from a year earlier, marking the fastest annual gain in nearly 42 years.

The company's UK subsidiary, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), whose production volume has suffered due to the shortage of chip supplies, is showing signs of recuperation and is expected to recover sequentially in the next few quarters. JLR has maintained its guidance of more than 80,000 units of sales volume for the last quarter of this financial year and total volume of 310,000 units for the full fiscal.
