Correction, volatility, recovery, these are a couple of words which dominated Dalal street in 2022. What words will dominate 2023; bull run, bearish phase, underperformance or nifty makes new high. Whatever might be the other words, one word is sure to dominate “large cap stocks” and there are reasons for it. There is enough evidence to prove that having large cap stocks in one's portfolio is a better option when markets are trading at rich valuations.

IDFC First Bank had sanctioned a term loan of ₹48 crore in favour of Marvel Realtors & Developers at an interest rate of 17.5% per annum in July 2017. Globally, the Russia-Ukraine war, the deepening global downturn and China's struggles with Covid-19 were the big drags in 2022, besides the US Federal Reserve's policy tightening that led to draining of funds from emerging markets. But resilient domestic investors, who cushioned the shocks of record-high selling by overseas funds, helped the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty eke out gains in a year that also saw a record-breaking rally by Indian stocks.

"The RBI has called for extensive data from ARCs on sale of retail loans; we believe a reprieve is on the way," said the CEO of a large ARC. Adani Group acquired a 29.18 per cent stake in NDTV by buying a company backed by the television network's founders, Radhika Roy and Prannoy Roy. Thereafter, it made an open offer to acquire an additional 26 per cent from public shareholders.

While the deft legal move shows the ingenuity of the tycoon and his dealmakers in clinching acquisitions — Adani’s entry into NDTV four months ago was also via an indirect route — it could invoke the regulator’s scrutiny on grounds that it is unfair to common shareholders.
